Charles Dickens helped to reform the law of his time; as a child he saw, first hand, harsh and often unfair law, children working in harsh conditions, his father imprisoned for debt, and his experience grew by working at Doctors Commons Court. He attacked the corruption and helped reform the system, leading to
copyright laws and better working conditions. The magnificent Royal Courts Of Justice was built as a result of Dickens work, not least, of course, Bleak House. My venue, The George In The Strand is opposite The Royal Courts, and close to Somerset House, where Charles's father John worked as an Admiralty clerk. We will explore all this and more.
